Artist's Statement

As I walked past a neighborhood playground, I was struck by the exuberant laughter and boundless energy of the children at play. Play is a universal language of joy, innocence, and possibility. The scene before me was more than just a moment of childhood joy, it was a living portrait of Canada’s future. Children of many backgrounds, cultures, and traditions played side by side, their differences blending seamlessly into a tapestry of shared happiness and belonging.

This work is my tribute to that moment. Each child is depicted celebrating the diversity that defines our nation. Their games and laughter transcend language and background, embodying the hope, unity, and mutual respect that I believe are at the heart of Canada’s promise. The vibrant colors, playful movement, and natural setting all serve to highlight the innocence and optimism that children bring to our world.

Through this piece, I invite viewers to reflect on the importance of inclusion and the beauty found in our differences. In the joyful faces of these children, I see not only the present but also the bright, harmonious future we can build together. This painting is both a celebration and a call to nurture the values of acceptance, community, and hope in every corner of our society.

The transformer box itself is a symbol of the energy and power that are essential elements for a thriving community. By pairing it with an image of children, the artwork subtly connects the idea of electrical energy powering our present with the energy and potential of the next generation powering our future.
